Vistaprint Awarded Two Additional U.S. Patents

VistaPrint Limited (Nasdaq:VPRT), the leading online supplier of high-quality graphic design services and customized printed products to small businesses and consumers, announced that the company has been awarded its sixth and seventh United States patents, bringing the company’s worldwide patent total to ten. VistaPrint has more than 40 pending patent applications worldwide.

VistaPrint’s two newest patents increase the size of the company’s intellectual property portfolio. U.S. patent number 6,992,794 relates to methods for processing and printing individual print jobs in groups instead of one at a time. This VistaBridge technology is part of what enables VistaPrint to process an average of 12,000 customized orders per day. Patent number 6,993,209 relates to VistaPrint’s ability to deliver printed products that match the design as viewed by the customer on the computer in the web browser.

“VistaPrint currently invests approximately 10% of our revenues on technology and development. This level of investment enables us to standardize, automate and integrate the value chain from graphic design to product shipment,” said Robert Keane, president and CEO of VistaPrint. “We are proud of the innovation of our engineers and intend to protect the intellectual property interest in this innovation via patents. We will continue to apply for more patents as we accelerate our investments in technology development.”

Unlike costly traditional graphic arts and printing techniques which produce custom printed orders one at a time, VistaPrint employs patented and proprietary technologies to aggregate custom orders from around the globe and to print them in groups at highly automated production facilities. VistaPrint produces large volumes of high-quality, customized orders simultaneously and for a fraction of the cost of graphic designers and traditional printers.

    Did You Know?

    A patent protects your invention.

A patent for an invention is a grant of property rights by the U.S. Government through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent grant excludes others from making, using, or selling the invention in the United States. The terms "Patent Pending" and "Patent Applied For" are used to inform the public that an application for a patent has been filed. Patent protection does not start until the actual grant of a patent. Marking of an article as patented, when it is not, is illegal and subject to penalty.
